Recycling start-up scores $6m for enzyme that eats plastic

Local recycling tech start-up Samsara Eco is gearing up to commercialise a new patented carbon-neutral recycling process, using enzymes that can break down plastics into their foundational building blocks, known as monomers.

The start-up has raised $6 million in fresh funding from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (managed by Virescent Ventures), Woolworths’ venture capital fund W23 and CSIRO’s Main Sequence Ventures.
